WIP Wednesday

Lately I've been really gung-ho with getting Owen's Little Square Blanket finished (I had to look up how to spell gung-ho and I learned a bit of history, wikipedia page here).

I am almost finished with it!  I ran out of yarn on the border.  So I'm going to have to wait until I can get to the yarn store on Saturday.  The shower isn't until August 11th, so I'll be done in plenty of time.  Here's a sneek peek:

I still have a whole bunch of ends to weave in!  Thankfully they are just from the seams and border.  Otherwise those ends would be over 300!

Since I have to wait for the yarn I started a baby bib.  You can't see the pattern yet, but here it is so far:

I also managed to get an updated picture of Dave's socks this morning.  I haven't worked on them in a while, but the picture I showed last week was way out of date.

Anyone recognize the bag that my sock project is in?  It's my Rock Paper Scissors Lizard Spock box bag from Jessalu.

I love The Big Bang Theory and this bag is so cute.

It even has scientific fabric on the inside!

I really want another JessaLu box bag, but I can't decide!

I've linked up with Tami's Amis for WIP Wednesday!

FO Friday - Color Affection, Linen Stitch, & Baby Items

I had this written on Wednesday!!!  I forgot to post it because I took Friday off from work and I didn't touch the computer!  So here it is, better late than never!

I finished quite a bit during my accidental hiatus from blogging.  I showed you a while back that I purchased yarn for a color affection.

I love these colors.  They are Fibernymph Dye Works Bounce in colors Grape Juice Purple, Bright Green, and Peacock Blue.

This shawl grew faster than I thought.  This was my first shawl.

My finished pictures were taken with my phone while Dave was in the hospital, so they aren't very good.  I haven't gotten around to taking better pictures.  The picture directly above, where I'm working on the border, shows the colors the best.

I did a nice wide border, just what I wanted to do.  I really think it shows off the blue perfectly!  I love the colors, I really think they work perfectly together.

Once I finished my color affection, I was in the mood to finish more!  So I picked up my Linen Stitch Scarf (seen here and here), which I hadn't worked on in FOREVER.  I plowed through and finished it!

Can you believe that this scarf came from this yarn?

My finished pictures weren't in the best light, so you can't see the subtle pinks and the bright blue as much as you can in real life.  The yarn used was Artyarns Ultramerino in color 195 (Red-Purple) and Claudia Hand Painted Yarn Fingering in colors John B. (Pink-Brown) and Hawaii (Blue-Green-White).

After I finished my Linen Stitch Scarf, I started working on two baby bibs.  These bibs actually were not for my sister.  They were for a soccer teammate who was having twins (she just had them a couple of days ago).

I like the monkey one better because it has a neater cast on edge.  It uses short rows to create the curve, while the ducky one uses a method where you keep casting on more stitches.  I couldn't stop it from looking loose.  I think I'll end up making more of these for my sister.

As soon as I found out my sister was having a boy, I cast on a little blue sweater.

I loved working on it!  It went by so quick!

I made the newborn size because I was worried I'd run out of yarn (I didn't).  My mom and my sister were worried that it was too small.  So I did the only logical thing, I put it on my 13lb dog.

It fit Toby with plenty of ease and my mom and sister got a kick out of it!

The pattern was Thom with a "TH" and the yarn was Knit Picks Swish Worsted.  I used 1.55 skeins.

With the left over yarn I made a newborn hat:

Again my mom and sister think it is going to be too small, but we'll just have to wait and see!

After I completed the sweater, but before I started Owen's Little Square Blanket I finished a knit blanket for Owen.  He's going to be so spoiled.  I started this blanket when I found out my sister was pregnant.  I did it in Navy yarn I had on hand, thinking that it is a neutral essentially and could be for a boy or girl.

I haven't blocked it yet.  The second picture shows the color of the yarn better.  The pattern is Pine Forest Baby Blanket and I used Berroco Vintage in color 5188.  This yarn is very soft and squishy and it is great that it is machine washable!!

So those are all of the items that I have finished since about March.  I've linked up with Tami's Amis.

WIP Wednesday - Shawl, Socks, and Baby Blanket

I have three different WIPs that I have been working on.  There's actually more, but they are snoozed on Ravelry, so I don't count them.

First up are Dave's socks.  I made him a pair a while ago, FO page here.  I decided to start him a second pair when I traded some yarn.  In a trade I received this:

I loved the blue, green, and brown together.  It is MacKintosh Celtic Sock in color Frog Pond.

I have more done of the socks, but this is the latest picture I have:

I'm actually almost to the heels.  These are the first socks that I'm doing two at a time on two circular needles.  I can see how easy it would be to do two at a time on one circular with magic loop as well.  Don't be afraid of socks!  They are really easy.

The next project I have been working on is for myself and it is the pattern Happy Street.  I am using Wollmeise yarn and Spacecadet yarn.  My ravelry project page is here.

I can't wait to finish this.  In the picture I was working on the 5th stripe out of 10.  Now I had just finihsed my 8th stripe.  I'm SO CLOSE!

I haven't been working on my Happy Street as much as I normally would because I'm working on a blanket for my soon to be nephew, Owen.  My sister really liked this baby blanket I made for her best friend's baby.  It was all over my blog last year as my Little Square Baby Blanket.

The theme to Owen's nursery is all around the bedding that my sister and her husband chose:

So these are the colors I chose for his little square blanket:

I'm using Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino yarn.  I have all 168 squares complete and I'm working on seaming the squares together.

I'm using the seam that is in this pattern, 124-1 Bohemian Oasis - Crochet blanket in ”Delight” and ”Fabel”.  I'm really trying to get this blanket done by the shower, which is August 11th.  I have about 25 days left!

For the first time in forever I actually have a WIP post, so I've linked up with Tami's Amis.

Getting back into the swing of things...

I've delayed and procrastinated getting my blog up to date because I have this weird thing where I want things to be in order.  Well I'll just have to deal with it that it won't be.

I went through old posts to see what Finished Objects I haven't shown you.  I think there is about 5.  So, I think I'll stick with Friday for Finished Objects.

  • On Friday you will see:
    • Color Affection (yarn purchase can be seen here)
    • Linen Stitch Scarf (WIP pictures can ben seen here and here)
    • Two baby bibs
    • Thom the baby sweater
    • Newborn hat
    • Pine Forest baby blanket
Apparently I can't count because I listed 6 finished items there.

  • On Wednesday, tomorrow,  I'll show you what I'm currently working on:
    • Happy Street
    • Dave's second pair of socks
    • Owen's Little Square blanket
Maybe by now you might have thought to yourself, "wow, that's a lot of baby items!"  They are not for me!  BUT, they are for my SISTER!  My sister will be having baby Owen in October.  I'm getting ready for her shower next month, August 11th!

So, what else have I been up to?  Well I just decided to scroll through my photos.

I got a Kitchenaid Mixer!!!  I was so excited about this.  I got it for over half off!

It is such a pretty blue!

I had to bake a cake that weekend and use it.  I just so happened to be having family over for Easter.

Also an excuse to use the cake stand!

Toby got to play with his best friend Tootsie!

Dave had another stint in the hospital, but they let Toby come visit!

Toby still loves looking out the windows, and he figured out he can fit behind the couch.

I baked some chocolate chip cookies with the mixer and they turned out amazing!  Too bad I haven't been able to get them like that since!  I'm not sure what I am doing different.

Dave and I went on a small trip to Niagara Falls, Canada in April.

My sister had a Memorial Day picnic and did a special cake to reveal the baby's gender.  Even my sister and brother-in-law didn't know if it was a boy or girl.  The cake's icing on the inside was going to be blue or pink.  Not sure if posting this video is going to work or not.

I "ran" the Color Me Rad (I walked part, I should have been able to run it).  The girls I ran it with were in far better shape than me.

And finally, I went to a wedding last weekend and had a very good time!

I'm third from the left and my sister and her pregnant belly is second from the left.  My friend Katie is the bride and obviously she is on the right.

So, I guess I'm caught up now!  We'll see!  I'll show you my WIPs tomorrow.
